Spoiler Warning: ‘Iron Man’ is Complete Shit

Having a short term memory of most other super hero movies and being a fan of the Iron Man comic when I was a kid, I saw the movie on opening night. That was a mistake, not just seeing it on opening night, seeing the movie at all was a mistake.

I do want to get out of the way that casting Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark was an excellent piece of casting. Downey captures Stark’s intelligence and snarkiness perfectly and I could not have imagined Stark being played by anyone else. Downey deserves all of the credit in the world for single handedly holding together an otehrwise complete abomination of Iron Man, Marvel, and movies in general.

Now that I got the good out of the way, I will start to delve into the bad, but due to constrants on my time that I want to devote to thinking about this movie, I will not get to everything. First off, the hook of this movie was seeing Iron Man doing some badass things with Black Sabbath’s ‘Iron Man’ song being played in the background. That never happened, I held my breath the entire movie waiting for this moment and once the credits start rolling, you finally hear Ozzy scream out the name sake song.

Second, for a superhero based on technology, this movie takes a lot of liberties with technology and only standing on the justification that Stark is a “Da Vinci of his time.” Ok…but still, how does he (and his alter-ego) have the phenominal learning curve to be able to handle those Iron Man suits? It makes no sense, even for a VERY corny super hero movie.

The most obvious complaint is the donkey punch that the movie gives to the comic when it comes to the story, I do have a big enough heart to say anything here, I do not want to ruin it for the three people that may enjoy the movie. But, god, do I want to.

I’m sick of film corporations making boat loads of money from ruining the nostalgia of my childhood, with that in mind, I will not be seeing Speed Racer…or Get Smart…or the new Indiana Jones.

  • Are you kidding!?!?!?!? This is the best marvel superhero movie ever, I can’t believe a “fan” of the Iron Man comic can think that this movie did not do it justice!

One thing you got right is that RD Jr. did a AMAZING job being Tony Stark.

  • Good review. Nice to see that the entire internet isn’t populated with idiots who parrot what shills tell them.

Iron Man just plain tries too hard and fails.

  • Was very annoyed at this film, wanted to turn it off 30 minutes before the end. I watched it for 2 hours and it didn’t even begin. I thought, WoW, this boring start(30-40mins into it) must mean the movie will explode with something GREAT, but no. NOTHING! Having any expectations about it, did make it worse, but I have a brain and wouldn’t have liked it no matter what mind set I used to watch it under, unless I could revert to my preteen years. I have already forgotten it as my brain obviously sees no use in storing this rubbish. 1 out of 3 films I’ve seen this week are bad so I’m still happy.
