China is suing CNN for $1.3 billion ($1 for each Chinese citizen) for Jack Cafferty’s
‘mean-spirited’ remarks toward Chinese industry and government. Cafferty said that the U.S. imports “junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food…they’re basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they’ve been for the last 50 years.”
First, what’s wrong with that statement? We buy a lot of crap from China and lately a lot of that crap has been poisoned. But maybe China is on to something, they are not “the same bunch of goons and thugs they’ve been for the last 50 years,” The thugs of 50 years ago didn’t sell poisoned goods. So, the Chinese “thugs” of now are WORSE than the ones of 50 years ago.
Second, we United States citizens have made some frivilous lawsuits over some really dumb stuff, but a government suing a cable news channel for some remarks made by a pundant? That takes the cake. I really have nothing else to say about that, it speaks for itself.
Lastly, Americans have the right to free speech! I know that free speech is an idea that the Chinese are not used to, but if they don’t want to be called “thugs,” then maybe they should get used to it!
